Kevin Conroy supplied Batman's hard-nosed voice some of us remember from "The Animated Series" and others that followed. The game doesn't skimp on the voice acting either. Paul Dini-one of the writers behind "Batman: The Animated Series" and "Batman Beyond"-wrote the storyline for "Arkham Asylum." The Joker lets Batman catch him, escapes inside the Alcatraz-like insane asylum island and turns it into his base for one of his sinister plots. Unlike so many other games with superhero leads, you don't get a mismatched voice and generic storyline.
His conversations with police commissioner James Gordon are smooth and familiar his conflicts with Scarecrow, psychologically twisting.
"Batman: Arkham Asylum" captures all aspects of Batman well. His appeal comes from a combination of bad-ass and crying child. What is Batman if not mold-breaking? Even after being incorporated into a world with the likes of Superman, Wonder Woman and The Flash, he remains the un-super-powered rich guy with little more than a tragic childhood to keep him fighting. DC Comics wouldn't comment on production costs, but "Call of Duty: Finest Hour" took 26 months and $25 million for The game took just short of two years to make and likely wasn't cheap. But the game provides plenty of extra stuff to keep you busy, most of it handled through the acceptably irritating chiding of the Riddler-making you want to find and solve his clues all the more. A single run through the storyline takes about six to eight hours for an average gamer who doesn't dawdle. They teamed up with "Tomb Raider" maker Eidos Interactive and relatively new London-based video game developer Rocksteady. I played "Batman: Arkham Asylum," and I can say DC Comics (and its parent, Warner Bros. DC Comics, which published the original Batman series, created the game. "Batman: Arkham Asylum," which goes on sale Tuesday, isn't another bad tie-in.
